A mum has been dubbed a hero after reporting her own teen son to the police because she had found sinister plans in his journal.
Despite the fact that it must have been hard to turn in her own son, Nicole did the right thing when she came across her 17-year-old son’s journal only to discover that he was planning a mass shooting on the anniversary of 1999 Columbine High School bloodshed.
As the authorities reported, the College Place High School student was apprehended and is facing multiple charges including felony harassment and threatening.
In the boy’s journal, the detectives came across details of the planned mass shooting including the intended use of specific explosives and firearms as well as the date, times, and locations.
“Kill everyone possible, fight to the death,” one chilling note found in the journal read.
In addition, the 17-year-old specified that he was planning to shoot his own mother and her partner on the day of the incident.
As Nicole revealed in an interview with CBS News, she initially confronted her son about the plan after coming across it. The boy, however, told her there was nothing to worry about because he was just after ‘creative writing.’
“I know a lot of people that go to College Place High School. Their lives would have been forever changed,” the heartbroken woman said.
“It takes a lot to do what I did. It wasn’t easy.”
While turning in her own son sure wasn’t easy despite the dark findings, the mother was heavily praised by the people for potentially saving their children’s lives.
Troy Tomaras, the College Place Police Chief, also praised the mother and called her “very courageous.”
