A 31-year-old mother from Texas accidentally shot her 8-year-old son during a heated argument with her husband.
Houston police said in a press release that Antionette Gina Corder and her husband had gotten into a verbal confrontation when she attempted to shoot the man during a domestic incident at their home on 6500 block of Dunlap.
Paramedics arrived and rushed the boy to a local hospital. Reports revealed that he was shot in the upper left chest area.
Corder and her husband had been arguing over him moving out, KHOU reported. She allegedly attempted to shoot the man but accidentally hit her 8-year-old son.
She was later charged with aggravated assault against a family member.
“HPD investigators are responding to the shooting of a juvenile in the 6500 block of Dunlap about 11:10 am. The child is hospitalized in unknown condition,” Houston Police wrote on Twitter.
“Indications are this may be domestic-related. Two adults detained for questioning.”
The police department said in a press release: “Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the shooting of a juvenile male at 6500 Dunlap Street about 11:05 a.m. last Friday (December 18).
“The suspect, Antionette Gina Corder (b/f, 31) is charged with aggravated assault-family member in the 183rd State District Court. She is accused in the shooting of her 8-year-old son, who was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.”
The statement added: “Corder and her husband got into an verbal altercation during which Corder picked up a gun and attempted to shoot her husband. Instead, Corder shot her son in the upper left chest area. The child was transported by HFD paramedics to the hospital.
“Corder was taken into custody at the scene and subsequently charged for her role in the incident.”
