39-year-old Mairead Philpott served only half of her 17-year sentence, prompting crime prevention experts to claim that ‘justice has not been done.’

The child killer and her husband Mick murdered their children in 2012 in an arson attack at their Derby home. But after serving eight and a half years for manslaughter, Philpott has walked out of prison.

Center for Crime Prevention’s David Spencer said to The Sun: “It makes an absolute mockery of the UK’s criminal justice system. Justice has not been done.

“Child killers like Mairead Philpott should not be free to roam the streets.

“The Home Secretary has promised a review of sentencing. This needs to be delivered urgently to ensure killers like Philpott serve the long sentences their horrific crimes deserve.”

Tory MP Pauline Latham also said: “Mairead Philpott should be serving a whole life sentence instead of being freed halfway through it.”

According to reports, the couple wanted the arson attack to look like it had been planned by Mick’s mistress Lisa Willis. They also hoped they would receive a bigger house after the fire.

Duwayne, 13, Jade, 10, John, 9, Jack, 8, Jesse, 6, Jayden, 5, all died because of the incident.

Philpott’s mother, 62-year-old Vera, has said she does not want to see her daughter ever again.

“I don’t want her near my door,” Vera expressed. “The sentence is not nearly long enough and we disown her after what she’s done.”

Philpott is currently staying at a temporary accommodation before getting a new identity.
