21-year-old Maria Plenkina has been detained after going on a week-long party with her friends, leaving her 3-year-old daughter alone in the house.
The mother deserted her child as she marked her 3rd birthday in the Russian city of Kirov.
Kristina was found by her grandmother, 47-year-old Irina Plenkina, when she delivered a birthday present for the little girl.
Irina quickly contacted the police and ambulance but the girl was already pronounced dead.
The devastated grandmother said that Maria kept in touch with her every day on social media, telling her that she and her child were ‘fine.’
But the truth was the mother had locked the door on Kristina. According to the Russian Investigative Committee, she even turned the water off so she couldn’t drink.
Maria has been detained and is under investigation for the ‘murder of a child using extreme cruelty.’
A committee spokesperson said: “The girl’s mother said that she deliberately closed the door of the apartment and left the house.”
One report said the mother was “having a good time with friends” and was “one a spree.”
The committee said Maria was “not there for a week – from February 13 to February 20.”
“She doesn’t even cry, and shows no regret. She just says in cold blood: ‘Yes, I left, I closed off the water and left the child without water and food.’”
Maria, seen in a video in a cage of a court, “speaks quietly, calmly, without emotional breakdowns.”
One neighbor said: “How can a mother be so evil?”
The grandmother, Irina, said she could’ve taken the little girl if she had sensed problems.
“She lied to me that everything was fine,” Irina expressed. “She lied to everyone.”
