A frightened mother shared the terrifying moment she heard a man’s voice on her baby monitor.
Kiara from Melbourne said she was woken up by the strange voice coming through the device after putting her son to bed.
The mother-of-three told Kidspot: “My partner Daniel and I were sleeping, everything was quiet and dark.
“Then I heard it, a really deep man’s voice that doesn’t belong to anyone that I know. I heard him say, ‘Mmm … that’s a cute one.’”
“I was frozen. I was so scared. I reached over to my partner and squeezed his arm so he would wake up.”
Her partner, Daniel, started checking the rooms in the house but the mother-of-three insisted that she heard the voice from her phone, which was connected to the baby monitor.
Kiara then decided to delete the app and unplugged the monitor.
“I didn’t want to think about all the disgusting things that they were thinking of looking at my baby,” she expressed.
“I had heard of this stuff happening, but only in the movies,” Kiara added. “I thought it would never happen to me, that’s why I was so shocked.”
Kiara and Daniel made sure the network was secure, setting new passwords for the app and the baby monitor.
The company Mirabella have said that the baby monitors are made to an international standard, adding there are no reports of the devices getting hacked.
Mirabella said in a statement: “The product has had excellent reviews, and to the best of its knowledge, the baby monitor is a secure device.”
The company also said that every device has a unique security key that is inaccessible to others.
