When building a happy marriage, it is important to invest in your relationship with your in-laws.
Having a strong mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship makes it easier for both sides of the family to merge as one.
But no matter how hard others try, it seems like some women just cannot form a good relationship with their MIL.
One wife’s shocking post has gained hundreds of comments after she claimed that her husband’s mother tried to ‘poison’ her meal while she was staying with her.
However, the mother-in-law’s plan quickly backfired when she was rushed to the hospital instead of her daughter-in-law.
“Recently my husband and I decided to sell our home. During the final closing period, we had about two weeks of limbo between places to live,” the woman wrote on Reddit.
“Ultimately we had to choose between staying with my MIL or a hotel. Due to the virus and wanting to save some money we decided MIL was slightly safer.
“When we were there she insisted on cooking lunch and dinner for us, which was a nice change of pace, but of course I was on guard. A couple of times during dinner we had discussions about food sensitivities and I reminded her AGAIN (something that’s come up repeatedly during the last decade) that I had a salt sensitivity inherited from my family.
“We spoke AGAIN about how it causes me to bloat and raise my blood pressure, how it contributed to my father’s heart attack and health problems.”
She then explained that after their conversations, their meals started to taste ten times saltier than before.
“I gave her the benefit of the doubt at first that this could be her normal way of cooking until my SIL who lives with her mentioned it was too salty to eat and totally different from the norm. She couldn’t even choke the meals down!” she said.
“We started bringing our own food and refusing to eat her meals that she’d try to pressure on us.”
After she and her husband moved into their own home, they received a call from their mother-in-law saying she was hospitalized with a bad kidney stone.
“She stayed a couple of days until it painfully passed and mentioned the doctors asked if she’d recently increased her salt intake,” the woman continued.
“Ultimately it turned out she had inadvertently poisoned herself with her salty, salty meals.”
Her post gained hundreds of comments, with one writing: “This was karma at its finest.”
Another wrote: “Sound like she’s one salty old b***h.”
A third added: “When the petty bulls**** backfires.”
