A 27-year-old mother jumped in front of a train after she allegedly poisoned her five children.
Christiane K from Germany remains in serious condition after she tried to commit suicide by throwing herself onto the tracks after poisoning her two boys and three girls in their Solingen apartment.
Her sixth child, 11-year-old Marcel, is believed to have taken the train with the mother after the crime. He traveled to his grandmother’s house after his mother got off at Dusseldorf.
The five bodies of the children, aged between 1 and 8, were found in the apartment 20 miles from the Dusseldorf station.
According to police, the kids were poisoned with tablets, RTL reported.
Police said they had been unable to contact the father of the children and that Marcel is now with his relatives.
Responders were also traumatized by what they discovered in the apartment. One rescuer had attempted to revive the children but they were too late to save them.
It is not clear if Marcel witnessed any of what happened in the building.
A spokesperson for the police, Stefan Weiand, said it was a tragic situation’ and that the mother was not ready to be questioned.
He told WDR: “We are assuming a crime was committed. How and why that happened, we cannot say.”
A member of the German parliament, Jurgen Hardt, said he was horrified when he heard the heartbreaking news.
“I wish the emergency services and the police strength as they deal with the case, which will affect them deeply as well,” he expressed.
