The controversial debate started on a Facebook group called Christmas Mums Australia where the woman shared a photo of a pile of toys, including a plastic castle, dolls, plastic floats, and various figurines, as she wrote:

While some people applauded the doting mom for being so “kind” and “generous” to her young daughter, critics were quick to slam the mother for “spoiling” the 2-year-old and buying piles of plastic toys that will end up in a landfill.

“That’s ridiculous for a two-year-old,” someone wrote.

“You’re setting her up for disappointment. Trust me,” another one suggested.

Some parents were also quick to point out that the majority of toys are plastic and that there are no books or educational toys among the numerous gifts.

However, lashing back at the critics were dozens of parents who expressed their support for the mother and insisted she could do as she pleased with her money.

“So what? I’ve gone all out for my three kids this year. They’ve missed out on so much because of COVID, my daughter’s first year of school and she’s missed so much as well as my second grader and toddler. The least I can do is spoil them for Christmas,” one mother wrote.

“I used to buy like this for my kid and I still sometimes do. It’s none of anyone’s business if she wants to waste her money on toys there are much worse things she could waste it on. She’s just a great mum who cares for her kid,” another one added.
