A 54-year-old mother was stabbed to death after she went to a Facebook marketplace seller’s home to buy a refrigerator.
Denise Williams wanted to buy the fridge for her partner, Guy Eldridge, as a gift.
But when she went to the apartment of 26-year-old Joshua Gorgone in Pennsylvania, the mother-of-two was stabbed with a kitchen knife.
When questioned by detectives, Gorgone said that he stabbed the woman after an argument over the fridge’s cost.
An autopsy later showed defensive wounds, suggesting there was a lot of struggle before the mother was killed.
Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees said: “She did put up one heck of a fight. This was a violent death that she sustained.”
Williams’ body was discovered within Gorgone’s home after she was reported missing.
Officers managed to find the mother by tracking her phone and utilizing her Facebook account.
“She went there to look at the fridge and never came out, unfortunately,” District Attorney Greg Neugebauer said.
Authorities are now urging caution when meeting strangers for such transactions.
“It’s never a good idea (to meet at someone’s home),” said Geistown Borough Police Chief Nicholas Zakucia.
“Public place. Meet with more than one person. You never know what you’re going to walk into.”
Heartbroken Eldridge described Williams as someone who “wouldn’t hurt a soul.”
“Just trying to continue to love the way she would want me to do and live life to the fullest, like she expected me like I would,” he told WJAC.
“Just you know always try and remember her in the happier times. I just hope that justice will be served. Bring closure for our family, bring closure for myself because she didn’t deserve this. I just hope justice will be served.”
