A mother elephant trampled a man to death after villagers threw stones at them as she protected her sick newborn, a local media reported.
Footage shows the mother trying to help her baby to its feet when it fell sick after birth in Ajnashuli, India.
Unfortunately, the baby was too weak to stand up and villagers then started throwing rocks at them, VN express reported.
The mother elephant charged at the people killing 27-year-old Shailen Mahato.
Reports said the elephant had tried to warn the people who gathered around them by stamping her feet. The momma elephant just gave birth to her sick baby and had been trying to move it into a nearby forest before locals attacked them.
10 other elephants appeared in the area, causing panic among villagers. Another video shows three elephants running through the forest as they chase the locals.
Forest rangers have prevented access to the area as the baby elephant is still not strong enough to walk to the jungle.
One person commented: “I hope the poor baby will survive, those villagers are just so very ignorant! They all got what they deserved!”
Another said: “This is unfortunately what happens in deprived ignorant people…the mother is just protecting her baby as all mothers do.”
A third wrote: “How evil can someone stoop to think it’s acceptable to throw stones at elephants, and a baby one too? I’m absolutely disgusted. I’m glad the elephant killed a man, it’s such a shame the elephants didn’t kill everyone! Vile excuses for humans!”
Someone else said: “Ha, love it, elephants have each others backs, shame they didn’t trample all the humans so they could face a slow agonizing death.”
