A mother tragically drowned in front of her daughter after getting caught in rough surf while enjoying a morning swim.
The incident happened at Coolum Beach on the Sunshine Coast in Australia where the unnamed 34-year-old mother was swimming in the sea together with her 11-year-old daughter.
As the witnesses reported, the woman’s daughter managed to make it back to the shore of First Bay safely. Her mother, however, was overtaken by the waves and was later spotted floating in the sea.
While nearby surfers managed to pull the mother to the shore and performed CPR, the 34-year-old was pronounced dead after the paramedics arrived at the scene.
The mother was reportedly swimming at an unpatrolled section of the beach where lifeguards hoisted warning flags after the woman had drowned.
According to the reports, the mother was vacationing at the beach together with her daughter, parents, and sister while her husband was fishing.
“I understand that nobody witnessed the woman drown, but they just noticed that she was floating in water,” Queensland Police Senior Sergeant Tony Hurley explained in an interview with Seven News.
“I understand that her sister and daughter were swimming in the same area.”
