Mother In Isolation For 12 Weeks Celebrated The World Down’s Syndrome Day By Wearing The Odd Socks


A mother urged everyone to still celebrate the World Down’s Syndrome awareness day amid coronavirus outbreak.

Stacey Corrigan’s six-year-old son Daniel has Down’s Syndrome and the mother urged everyone to still celebrate the day.

34-year-old Stacey from Paisley and her partner Colin Murray are in isolation for 12 weeks as Daniel is extremely vulnerable to coronavirus.

When the mother saw the official events to celebrate the World Down’s Syndrome awareness day getting canceled, she urged everyone to still celebrate it at their home.

Stacey said: “Daniel is vulnerable so we are in isolation for 12 weeks. It will be great to celebrate and do something positive and not worry for the day. We are still celebrating and will all be wearing our odd socks.”

She said the day is one of her favorite days of the year and she feels it is important to raise awareness about the condition every year.

The mother and her son wore the odd socks and did some artwork to hang in their window on the World Down’s Syndrome awareness day.

She said: “It’s a trend we seen online and think it’s a wonderful way for the children to do something fun and uplifting in our community.”

“Being in isolation won’t stop us having fun.”

Most of the events, including the official ones got canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak.

But, the mother decided to still celebrate it to make her child feel special and to remind everyone of the things that make her son special.

Stacey said: “If you want to find something to cheer you up and give you a smile. Maybe a wee tear I’d definitely recommend.”

Downs syndrome charity Wouldn’t Change a Thing hosted a watch party through their Facebook page to celebrate the World Down’s Syndrome awareness day.

People with Down’s Syndrome shared positive videos and messages to mark the day.
