Mother-Of-Three Dies After Getting Hit By A Stray Bullet While In Her Bedroom


A mother-of-three has passed away after getting struck by a stray bullet while checking on the commotion going on outside from her bedroom window.

The tragic incident occurred in Queens, New York City, where 43-year-old Bertha Arriaga walked up to her bedroom window to check what was going on after hearing a noise coming from outside.

As the mother of three sons, aged 6, 10, and 14, approached the window, she was hit in the head by a stray bullet fired by one of the people involved in a showdown at 34th Avenue in Jackson Heights.

After getting shot in the head, Arriaga collapsed to the floor where she was later found by her 14-year-old son.

Following the discovery of his mother’s lifeless body, the boy woke up his father, Jorge Aguilar, who attempted to resuscitate his wife by performing CPR.

After first responders arrived at the scene, Arriaga was pronounced dead.

As Jorge told PIX11 while fighting back his tears, his wife “cared deeply about the kids” and was “the best wife of all.”

While there have been no arrests in connection to the mother’s death as of this writing, the New York Police Department has released footage with two persons of interest in it.

In the short video, two people, who appear to be males, are seen attempting to steal a bike while on a motorcycle.

“There appears to be a theft occurring at the time – an attempted theft of a bicycle that was locked up in front of this location,” Deputy Inspector Julie Morrill said in an interview with ABC 7 NY.

“The theft that was occurring ended. The bike was not taken by these perps. A shot rang out. At this time it is still under investigation as to who fired that shot.”
