A 29-year-old mother tragically died after she used her body to shield her children during a car crash.
Hillarie Galazka used her body to protect her twin boys from the impact of the crash, Galakza’s grieving mother, Jodie Kelley, said.
The tragic incident happened when a speeding driver rear-ended the mother’s car on the entrance ramp of the I-96 in Michigan.
Galazka’s 8-year-old son was not in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
In an interview with Fox 2 Detroit, Kelley said: “Her body saved them. The boys say they saw her open her eyes, and look at them and then she closed her eyes, never opened them again. They remember that.
Galazka’s brother, Jacob, said: “I’m just glad the babies survived a tragedy for the family. She is a good-hearted, strong, beautiful woman. She didn’t deserve this death.”
According to Fox News, the mother-of-three died at the scene. Her twin sons were rushed to a hospital with minor injuries.
The 25-year-old driver reportedly fled the scene but was later found at a hospital.
Officers are now investigating the driver, who had a suspended license, in addition to two local warrants, five current suspensions, and two prior convictions.
“I can’t believe he was behind the wheel doing 90 miles per hour in an SUV,” Kelly expressed.
The grieving mother has set up a GoFundMe page for her daughter’s funeral. She also wrote on the page that the driver of the other car is in custody.
“She was my best friend she’s gone now,” she said.
One person commented: “It’s like the mother hen hiding her chicks under her wings when there’s a fire: the chicks often survive though the mother dies! The sacrificial love is wonderful; so different to the coward who hits and runs! May she rest in peace and rise in glory – and may the coward meet justice!”
Another wrote: “Sorry for the tragic death of this young mother…”
