A mother is in a legal battle with medics in an attempt to prevent them from operating on her teenage daughter who identifies as trans.

As the Canadian mom in question revealed, her child had already started hormone therapy back during the summer. Recently, she also scheduled a double mastectomy in an attempt to get rid of both of her breasts as part of her gender transition.

The surgery, however, was temporarily delayed after the teen’s mother sued the doctors claiming that the procedure was “unnecessary” and that her daughter was “brainwashed” by media and school.

“Before she learned it at school, she never questioned her identity,” the mother claimed according to the Thomson Reuters Foundation.

While British Columbia’s Infants Act suggests that minors may receive treatment without their guardians’ consent if they are believed to fully understand the outcome and the associated risks, the teen’s mother insists that minors aren’t “mature enough to make these decisions for themselves.”

As part of a legal bid to stop her daughter from undergoing mastectomy, the mother demanded doctors pause the procedure until the court rules whether the teenager had sufficient understanding and mental capacity before agreeing to the surgery.

Lashing out at the mother for blocking her teen daughter’s transition were various activists who accused her of attempting to dictate her daughter’s major life decisions.

One of the trans activists defending the teenager was Morgane Oger who pointed out that the Infants Act was put in place to “protect youth from exactly what this mother is doing.”

“We have very rigorous processes in place, we made sure of that because everybody is terrified of regret,” Oger reassured.
