‘That’s Enough!’ Grieving Mother Interrupts Late Daughter’s Eulogy As Fiancé Lists All Of Her ‘Flaws’ And Shortcomings


A heartbroken mother was forced to interrupt her late daughter’s eulogy after her fiancé started listing her flaws.

23-year-old Ashleigh Petrie died after she was hit by a car. But her fiancé, 68-year-old Rod Higgins, talked about her ‘shortcomings’ during his speech at her funeral.

Ashleigh’s furious mother eventually silenced the man, who also talked about her daughter’s battle with depression.

According to Daily Mail Australia, Higgins started his eulogy by praising her ‘zest for life’ and calling her ‘externally as attractive as a woman could possibly be.’

The 68-year-old said it was ‘the saddest time in his life’ as he spoke in front of Ashleigh’s family and friends.

But he then started to talk about her battle with depression, saying she was short on medication for chemical imbalances in her brain.

When Higgins claimed her mental health issues had worsened her flaws and shortcomings, Ashleigh’s grieving mother stepped it.

“I think that’s enough!” Theresa told Higgins, who immediately took his seat.

According to the news outlet, Higgins had fought for and received £100,000 life insurance payout from Ashleigh’s death.

He reportedly started inquiring to collect the life insurance less than a day after she tragically died.

The 23-year-old had left her life insurance and entire savings to her mother but Higgins managed to fight and said he was entitled to her super payout.

In addition, Higgins went back to his ex-partner shortly after Ashleigh passed away.

Ashleigh’s ex-boyfriend, 50-year-old Stuart Gowty, told the publication: “Here’s a guy earning a hell of a lot of money and is about to retire on a huge pension. And you’ve got a grieving mother with very little. I don’t know what to say. I don’t think it’s the right thing. It’s horrendous to see. It just keeps going.

“I know her mother very well and she’s a grieving mother. I’ve maintained a close relationship with the mother and brother since.”
