A proud mother of a 10-year-old beauty queen has spoken out and defended her decision to spend a small fortune on her daughter’s expensive clothes, global trips, and beauty pageants.

37-year-old Lou Handy has lashed out at internet trolls who mocked her for paying over $12,000 on her daughter’s beauty pageants and revealed that she couldn’t be prouder of the girl’s achievements.

The mother-of-three explained how her daughter, Mia, birthed a dream to become a beauty queen after watching Toddlers and Tiaras at the age of six.

“Over the four years, absolutely everything from Mia’s travel, to outfits, hotels and eyelashes definitely pushes the £10,000 barrier. There’s quite a lot of backlash, but it’s a sport – a competition,” Lou said.

“People think we’re dressing our children up as 25-year-old models and they’re being judged only on their faces.

“When she has a show, she practices her walk for 20 minutes every day. And she practices for interviews which is an essential life skill. When she has job interviews when she’s older she’ll smash them.”

As the proud mother added, participating in beauty pageants helped Mia deal with epilepsy which she was diagnosed with when she was just 4.

Pleading with people to stop harassing the 10-year-old and leaving nasty comments on her social media profiles, Lou added:

“If you wouldn’t go up to someone and say it to their face then don’t say it online. People think that social media is this magical place where there aren’t any consequences.

“People need to realize Mia is 10, she’s old enough to look through my phone and see comments and when she’s done an event she always wants to know what people have been saying.

“I wouldn’t dream of commenting on a photo of someone’s so why do people think it’s alright to do that to us?”
