33-year-old Vanessa Cardenas Gonzales was pregnant with her daughter when she tested positive for Covid-19.

After giving birth to baby Heaven, the two were separated right away as a precaution to prevent the child from contracting the virus.

The mother was told to self-isolate at home after they were released from the hospital.

Her husband, Alfonso, said she had been shattered and broken as she could not hold their daughter. She was forced to settle for using FaceTime to see Heaven.

Her heartbroken husband said he plans to keep his belongings and give everything to their daughter. “I’ll tell her that was my rib. That was my other half,” he expressed.

Alfonso told USA Today that their baby girl’s name was prophetic of what happened to his wife.

A friend of a family set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the funeral expenses.

“To all our friends, family and church family, it is with a broken heart that we announce the passing of a wife, loving mother, daughter and friend Vanessa Cardenas Gonzalez,” the page reads.

“Vanessa tested positive for COVID-19 a few days before she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl Heaven Leigh Gonzales. She was not able to hold her or have any contact with her 1st baby girl (whom she was very excited to meet).”
