A mother has gone viral after revealing she had placed coal in her children’s Christmas stockings because they were misbehaving throughout the year.
As the unnamed mom in question revealed in her Facebook post, she became fed up with her sons’ “naughty” behavior which is why she decided to fill their stockings with coal rather than gifts ahead of Christmas.
The Daily Star also reported that the mother attached a ‘note from Santa’ explaining why there was coal in the stockings instead of gifts.
“Santa is very disappointed because you have not been good boys this year and you have made it onto my naughty list,” the note presented to the kids read.
“So instead of treats and toys in your stocking, I have put coal.”
The letter added: “If you want to be on the good list next year, you need to: Listen to your mother and do what she tells you. Stop screaming and yelling. Be kind to each other. Stop telling lies to your mother.
“This is your last chance. Make sure you listen. From Santa.”
To make sure that her kids didn’t end up empty-handed on Christmas, the mother decided to provide them with some gifts but warn them they wouldn’t receive any presents next year if they continued to misbehave.
“I have brought you presents this year but you must promise to be good, because if you are on the naughty list next year you will get nothing. Your presents are out the back,” the note concluded.
After sharing her story on the internet, the mother received contradicting replies whereas some parents praised her for standing up to her misbehaving children while others questioned her parenting methods.
“Bad behavior doesn’t get rewarded. You did a good thing teaching lessons. If anyone reads the letter you can see the kids didn’t miss out on anything,” one person wrote in mom’s defense.
Another one agreed by saying parents should follow through “with the whole Santa and coal thing” if their children prove to disobey them.
However, not everyone thought the idea was good for the children’s development.
“This is why the magic of Christmas is slowly dying – don’t use Santa as your choice of punishment,” one person wrote.
“It’s not fair. He comes once a year – I couldn’t imagine my kids reading something like that and seeing their faces.”
