There are times when parents are nearby but they don’t realize their little ones have gotten themselves in danger due to distractions.
And there is this incident. Six adults were sitting within feet of two 3-year-old boys but one of the children nearly lost his life.
According to The Daytona Beach News-Journal, a family was at Perry’s Ocean Edge Resort. Dad, mom and their two kids were enjoying in the resort’s hot tub that was about to close so the father jumped out to get their things.
There were six people left in the hot tub when the two young boys went into the water. One was wearing arm floaties while the other twin wasn’t.
As they clambered into the tub, one without floaties slipped under and stayed at the bottom for two long minutes.
All six adults didn’t notice the 3-year-old wriggling at the bottom. The staff member who walked by to say the area was close didn’t notice. His parents also didn’t notice.
The only person who saw what happened was the 3-year-old twin brother who was reaching out through the water, pointing, but no one noticed him.
A resort desk clerk watching the surveillance videos radioed a staff member when she thought a child went under.
Staff member Michael Johnson checked but didn’t see anything except for one child standing safely at the side.
After everyone went out of the tub, the drowning child finally became visible. Johnson quickly jumped into the water, pulled the poor boy out and started CPR.
The boy wasn’t breathing and had no pulse but thankfully he was revived and brought to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital.
The child’s mother, 36-year-old Apryl Connolly, is now facing charges including neglect after her son almost died while she was allegedly intoxicated.
“While people are attending to the victim, the defendant can be seen pacing the deck around the hot tub,” the affidavit said.
“The defendant admitted to feeling ‘buzzed’ and that she thought other people were watching over her kids and that she could relax.”
Authorities said that Connolly and the children’s father allegedly admitted to consuming oxycodone, alcohol, and marijuana. The mother also admitted to consuming Suboxone. She was arrested and is in prison without bond.
