A 27-year-old mother has been sentenced to life in prison for taking the life of her 5-year-old daughter.
Krystle Conception Villanueva decapitated her child after she had asked for cereal. Before this incident, she also stabbed her father-in-law and almost killed him.
His father-in-law managed to escape, unlike the little girl.
Villanueva’s lawyers insisted that she’s not guilty by virtue of insanity. They also told the jury that the mother had mental health issues and was taking medicines but the argument was later rejected.
The incident has been called one of the worst in Hays county.
Police received a call from a man who reported he was ambushed and stabbed on his back and head by his daughter-in-law. He also informed them that Villanueva was inside the house with his granddaughter.
Cops surrounded the house and tried to save the five-year-old girl but Villanueva called 911 and said to the dispatcher that she had already killed her child, Giovanna Hernandez, ‘because she asked for cereal.’
According to Metro, Villanueva was found naked when the SWAT team broke in the house.
During interrogation, the mother offered a strange explanation about delusional. She also said to authorities that “she had been under the delusional belief that her daughter and her father-in-law had been replaced by clones and had to be killed to bring back her real family members.”
It was also found that the 27-year-old consumed alcohol and was high on weed during the killings.
Villanueva had received treatments for mental health problems and doctors mentioned that it had been related to substance abuse.
“A case like this leaves an unforgettable mark on everyone involved, especially the child’s family,” said Wes Mau, the Hays County Prosecutor.
“Every law enforcement member who worked on this case will forever be traumatized by what Ms. Villanueva did to her innocent daughter. I commend all the investigators and officers who endured this horror with calm professionalism so that justice could be done.”
