A 9-year-old boy was caught secretly using his Amazon Echo smart speaker to finish his maths homework.
Bryce Gormanley can be seen sitting on the floor asking multiplication problems to ‘Alexa.’ The automated voice can be heard answering: “Four times three is twelve.”
The young boy wrote down the answer as the shocked mom, Ms. Gormanley, continued to film the moment while raising her eyebrows.
Her son went on and asked: “Alexa, eight multiplied by four?”
Alexa gave the right answer again and Ms. Gormanley only shook her head and chuckled.
“Alexa, six multiplied by six?” he asked one more question before Ms. Gormanley interrupted: “What is going on here?”
Bryce looked around, appeared to be shocked before replying: “Doing my homework.”
His mom then said: “No, that is not how you do homework.” She added: “You do realize you’ll be doing all this again yourself?”
The hilarious moment was shared on Facebook and the video gained almost two million views.
She posted the video with the caption: “I would say it’s a fantastic effort son – not. Alexa is not how you do your homework, Bryce.
“10/10 for cleverness on this aul boy [sic]. Really could not believe the cheek of him doing it when I was in the vicinity.”
Ms. Gormanley said: “I told him I was going to put dinner on so he was to make a start on his homework.
“As I was cooking I could hear Alexa in the background saying something, so I went into the living room to check and there I caught him.
“He was completely oblivious to me being there, so I went back into the kitchen, got my phone and videoed.
“As you can see from his face, he was pretty shocked when I caught him out. That was what made me share this. The sheer cheeky face on him.
“I thought “Wow how smart.” So afterwards we did his homework again and had a laugh watching the video back. That’s when we decided to share it.
“Most of the reaction has been amazing.
“I’m just glad most of the world can see it for what it is and that’s a wee boy being smart who found a way of doing it quicker.
“He doesn’t like any sort of homework, but I actually had his parents night on Thursday evening with his teacher and she reports that he is doing great in all aspects of his academic studies.”
