Shannon Bird tearfully said to the dispatcher that her breast milk had dried up and she did not have any formula to give her baby.

The desperate mom also told the dispatcher that her husband was away for work and her four other children were asleep.

In the audio obtained by KSL, the mother said: “I’ve been calling neighbors and no one will answer. I’ve never been in this predicament ever. My milk just literally dried out. This is my fifth kid and this has never happened.”

Bird said she normally breastfeeds her children so she did not buy any formula.

Officers then arrived with a gallon of regular milk from a convenience store. A video from an officer’s body camera showed the mother cradling her 6-week-old baby in a pink blanket as she opened the door.

As soon as officers realized Bird’s child was a newborn and couldn’t have regular milk, they said they would buy infant formula from the store.

“We’ll leave this with you,” said officer Brett Wagstaff as he handed over the regular milk. “We’ll be right back with some formula for your baby – she’s adorable.”

Officers then returned with infant formula and would not take any money from the mother.

“That’s the same stuff we gave my daughter when she was first born, so hopefully it doesn’t upset her stomach,” Wagstaff said.

The department wrote on their Facebook page: “So very proud of our officers and their dedication to duty.”
