24-year-old Malaysian woman, Siti Nurhidayah Kamal, was arrested and refused bail after contacting heartbroken parents of 11-month-old Amiyah Windross and telling them to pay $1,000 if they wanted to get their hands back on their lost phone that contained pictures of their precious child.

Sadly, the 11-month-old died last week due to a neurological issue she was suffering from since birth.

According to the reports, Siti contacted Dee and Jay Windross after the couple pleaded with the public to help them find their lost phone.

“It’s despicable. It’s disgusting,” Windross said. “Why would anyone do that and she knew the position we were in. You could tell by the messages. How could you be so disgraceful?”

As the couple explained, they believe their phone was stolen when they were visiting Chadstone Shopping Centre.

“The hours that we spent holding our daughter, this woman was sitting in her own house demanding money from us,” Ms. Windross added.

In the court, Kamal defended herself saying she didn’t actually steal the phone but only pretended she did because she and her husband were struggling to earn money to be able to return to their children whom they left behind in Malaysia when they moved to Australia to work.

The 24-year-old mother, who allegedly makes $120 a day as an Uber Eats deliverer, thought it would be fair if she extorted $1,000 from grieving parents.

“They’re earning more money than we are,” Dee expressed.

“They earn more money then we’ve been living on one wage each for 11 months and we have had to pay hospital bills, car parking – everything. Mortgage bills. And she’s in there crying because they don’t earn enough money.”

“It was a hoax. Not only was it a complete and utter waste of my time, it was interrupting my final moments with my dying daughter,” Mr. Windross added, explaining how Kamal not only blackmailed the couple but also ruined their final moments with their daughter.

“She needs to get everything that they are capable of giving to her. She has children. She has two children that are still alive – I don’t have my baby anymore,” Ms. Windross expressed outside the court before pleading with the public to help them find their phone once again.

“I don’t have my baby anymore, I can’t take any more photos of my baby. I don’t care who you are. Give it back … you don’t have to tell me who you are or where you are. Just put the phone somewhere and let someone know where it is so that I can have it back.”
