A mother has been called a bad parent after sharing a photo of her newborn baby’s long sharp nails online.
While the photo in question has been circulating the internet for a long time, the debate was recently reignited after the controversial picture reappeared on social media.
In the photo previously shared by a mother, a baby is seen gripping onto mom’s thumb with all five fingers. As seen in the picture, the baby’s nails are long and sharp and appear to have been manicured.
After the photo went viral, plenty of people suggested that the mother was being careless and irresponsible for letting her baby’s nails grow so long. Others also said that sharpening the nails was a dangerous idea that could result in serious injuries.
As some people suggested, the mother in question might have been looking for attention, whereas the sharpened nails look like they could be fake nails glued on top of the baby’s real nails for aesthetic purposes.
“I hope they did this just for the picture but then again they let the baby’s nails grow this much. Either way it’s not good. I feel for the kid,” one person wrote.
“Baby nails are sharp enough as it is, those things would tear your face right up,” another one said.
While one person suggested that “an itchy eye could result in permanent blindness,” others said the long nails could be an honest mistake due to how fast babies’ nails can grow.
