39-year-old Kate Scottow from the UK was arrested in front of her then-20-month-old son and 10-year-old daughter back in 2018 after misgendering a trans woman, Stephanie Hayden, on purpose and sending her anti-trans messages in which she referred to her as ‘he’ and ‘him’.

After the trans activist complained to the authorities saying Scottow put her through “significant online abuse,” the mother was arrested and eventually convicted.

Now, the 39-year-old revealed that she no longer has a conviction because her appeal was successful.

“Today was my appeal. I no longer have a conviction. Comments will be released later this month or early next year. But I’m free,” Scottow wrote in her Twitter post.

During the trial last year, the court heard how Scottow created a series of social media accounts and targeted Hayden with anti-trans messages.

“I had been subject to significant online abuse and harassment by internet trolls but a number of those trolls stood out for various reasons and I recall that there was one particular Twitter account which was, at the time, known as Busted Wench,” Hayden previously revealed.

“Among all the things I had received at that time, I got a tweet which basically described me as a racist. I was very offended.”

According to the reports, Hayden began her transition in 2007. In 2018, she has also secured a gender recognition certificate that serves as proof that she is a female.

Following Scottow’s successful appeal, Hayden expressed her disappointment over the ruling.

“I understand Katherine Scottow was successful with her appeal by way of case stated. I cannot comment further as I have no idea why the conviction was quashed. Once reasons are available I will comment further,” she wrote.

Later, Ms. Hayden added:

“There have been three judgments in the High Court within the last nine days that have trodden over transgender people. Health care has been fettered and now the court appears to have given the green light for doxing and abusing trans people online.

“Whilst I am disappointed with the High Court’s decision I nevertheless congratulate Mrs Scottow and wish both her family and her best wishes. Time now to draw a line.”
