A mother from Russia was arrested after leaving her 3-year-old daughter unattended at her home in order to go on a party spree for a week.
21-year-old Maria Plenkina was charged with abandoning her daughter, Kristina, at her home, whereas the girl was left with nothing to eat.
Unfortunately, the toddler was found dead at Maria’s apartment in Kirov one week after the mother left her to go party.
According to the reports, the court heard that the toddler had starved to death whereas the girl was allegedly so hungry she attempted to eat washing powder.
In addition to leaving her daughter unattended and without food, Maria has turned off the water supply in her apartment before leaving.
It wasn’t until Kristina’s grandma, Irina, arrived at the flat to wish the girl a happy birthday that the toddler was discovered.
After the incident, an investigation into the case confirmed that Maria committed a “murder with extreme cruelty.” In addition, the court has heard that the mother is “fully aware of her actions” and “sane.”
According to Anastasia Kurpina, Maria’s friend, the young mother told her someone else was taking care of Kristina while she was partying with her.
Anastasia has also claimed that she had paid for Maria’s drinks and club visits over the week they were partying together.
After the death of the three-year-old, Maria has confessed to the murder but claimed she didn’t intend to kill her daughter. She also insisted that she left enough sausages for her to survive on her own but failed to confirm how many.
According to the police, the 21-year-old didn’t show any remorse upon her arrest.
“She just says in cold blood: ‘Yes, I left, I closed off the water and left the child without water and food,’” the court heard.
For her crime, Maria is facing up to 20 years in prison.
