People have been very creative with the ways technology is being used and that has opened a whole new vista the world over with new services and methods of doing things practically changing our lives overnight.

Part of this includes such voice-activated services like Google Home and Alexa that has brought added convenience to managing our household through the so-called Internet Of Things. In addition, you can ask them about almost anything such as the weather, traffic, and even ordering things online.

But in the case of one young boy, he found another creative use of Alexa when his mother found him using the device to help him answer his math homework.

Yerelyn Cueva, 24, from New Jersey shared a short video clip of her six-year-old son Jariel who was supposed to be doing math homework without help.

In the clip, Jariel can be heard asking, “Alexa, what’s five minus three?”

The Amazon Echo dutifully replies with the right answer before Cueva can be heard bursting into the room yelling “BOY!”

The Twitter post quickly went viral, amassing at least 8.2 million views.

Speaking to the New York Post, the young mother said, “It was just any regular day of doing homework.

“I’m in the living room, and I overheard him asking Alexa some math problems, and I could not believe it! What you don’t see is after he says, ‘Thank you, Alexa, for helping me with my homework.’”

They only had the device for one week before her son tried using it with his homework. It’s a good thing Amazon hasn’t programmed Alexa to say “Thank you!”

Cueva added: “The funny thing is that math is actually his favorite subject. I was surprised because he knows this stuff. He was just being lazy. Taking a shortcut.”

While she still finds the device extremely useful, she plans on hiding it any time her son does homework.

She said Jariel is bright and “always asks different questions than the other kids, and has always been very mature mentally.”

But after that recent escapade, “I’m probably going to have to turn it off so he doesn’t just keep on cheating,” she said.
