Donate Life reports that 8,000 people die each year because they can’t get the organs they need in time. This is in spite of the fact that more than 8,500 donors give selflessly to save more than 24,000 lives.
Heather’s 7-month-old son Lucas was one of these heroes who gave lives to three people. He died unexpectedly while being babysat.
Needless to say, it was a nightmare for Heather, and she didn’t want other parents to feel the same. She courageously decided to donate Lucas’ organs to three people in need.

A 4-year-old girl by the name of Jordan received Lucas’ heart. She spent the early years of her life in the hospital, as she was suffering from a congenital heart defect. A heart transplant was her only option to live. Thankfully, Lucas’ heart came to rescue.
A few years after the surgery, Heather meets Jordan and her family… and hears Lucas’s heart, beating strongly in Jordan’s chest. After the years of despair and sadness since her son’s loss, imagine the emotions the mother must have felt hearing her son’s heart beating, so healthy and so alive.

It was a very emotional meeting for both of the mothers. Jordan’s mother couldn’t thank Heather enough. She even prepared a special present — a Build-A-Bear with the recording of Lucas’ heartbeat so Heather could hear his heart every day.
