A mother shared how her c-section wound exploded in the shower only days after giving birth.

26-year-old Deanna Hirrell from Leicester gave birth to her baby boy via c-section. But only a few days later, her wound exploded in the shower because of a flesh-eating bug.

There was a “flood of puss and blood” and she frantically called her midwife who told her to just take a rest.

But Deanna’s partner, Mark Wilson, rushed her to a hospital when her C-section wound continued to leak and her body began to smell like ‘death.’

“This was meant to be the best time of my life – being a new mum,” Deanna said.

“But it’s destroyed me. I cry everyday. When it burst open there was all this puss and blood and the smell was terrible.

“It was like the smell of death. It was horrible.”

Medics discovered that the first-time mom was suffering from necrotizing fasciitis, an infection caused by bacteria.

If not treated immediately, it can be deadly as it eats away at the muscles, fat, and skin, and spreads aggressively.

Deanna said that doctors had to ‘scoop out’ a 6in deep hole to remove the infected tissue, leaving her with more than 25 stitches.

“The doctors don’t know what caused the flesh eating bug, but I was told if I didn’t come in when I did it would have ruined me and I could have died,” she added.

“I’m glad I acted when I did, but I just wish this didn’t happen at all,” she expressed.

“I love how I have a beautiful baby boy. But you don’t hear about these things happening when you become a mum.”

She added: “I always wanted to be a mum but I dare not have another baby as it will probably cripple me.”
