A British mom started a debate on social media after revealing that she regularly takes bath in Dettol water to keep her skin fresh, adding that she also makes her son do the same.
Laura Nicholls made her confession in the Facebook group named Mrs. Hinch Made Me Do It.
“Does anyone else bath in dettol?” she wrote. “Makes u feel so fresh I love it. Lol.”
Laura said she adds two capfuls of the packaging of the antiseptic disinfectant into her bath at least once a week.
Speaking to MailOnline, she said her 8-year-old son also uses the same “if he’s been out playing and gets filthy, or grazes his knees and elbows.”
Laura’s confession divided social media users. While some were horrified by the concept, others admitted to using the hack.
“It stinks! Not a chance!” one user wrote. Another added: “Would smell like a mop tho.”
A third person said: “Wouldn’t like to bath in Dettol who would want to smell off Dettol certainly not me I use it on my floors.”
Someone said: “My Mom thinks I’m weird (probably right) but I love a Dettol bath. I use Dettol soap too with exfoliating gloves!”
One mom wrote: “Love a capful in the bath. Makes the whole of upstairs smell super clean and is great for healing after a baby or operation.”
Dettol says that bathing in the disinfectant is absolutely safe if it is used in a diluted state.
In fact, pathologist Dr. Louw, from the National Health Laboratory Service, encourages people on the brand’s website to use the disinfectant when washing.
“Using a Disinfectant Liquid as part of your daily hygiene routine is important,” Dr. Louw said. “When skin is clean and moisturized, it improves overall hygiene.”
“Dettol Disinfectant Liquid has added Aloe Vera, which is gentle on skin and kills 100 illness causing germs when diluted in bath water,” the brand added on its website.
