A mother-to-be revealed how her in-laws demanded she changes the name of her incoming baby even though she already got used to it.
As the anonymous pregnant woman revealed in her Reddit post, her family-in-law got extremely upset when they found out about the name she and her partner had chosen for their baby.
Four months after the mom-to-be and her partner agreed on the name, the aunt of the pregnant woman’s husband lashed out at the couple saying her daughters wanted to use that name for their daughters because the name was the same as that of the aunt’s late mother.
“When his aunt and her two daughters found out we had chosen that name, they were furious because they had planned to name one of their future daughters that name (neither of them are planning to have children anytime soon),” the mother-to-be wrote.
“We didn’t know they had planned to do that and it wasn’t something we thought about during the process of choosing her name. They said it should have been obvious to us that it would be a choice for a girl’s name for one of them.”
While the mom-to-be defended her choice of name by saying it’s okay for two members of the family to have the same name, the aunt allegedly doubled down on her demands that she changes the name she had chosen for her baby because it would “cheapen” her daughters’ future babies’ names.
Asking fellow Redditors for advice, the woman added that she had already informed her aunt-in-law that she is not willing to change her incoming baby’s name because she’s already attached to it.
Responding to the concerned mom-to-be, one user wrote: “Use the name. They don’t have copyright over it and honestly, it’s ridiculous to lay claim to a name for a hypothetical future child.”
Another one suggested: “There’s three Pauls in my family. Everyone survived. And seriously, if the memory is so easily cheapened by an unintentional name cross over, they have some personal work to do that has nothing to do with you.”
