When everything is going well in pregnancy, all a mother expects after the delivery is to see her new-born all hale and hearty.
Then again, this is not what something that happened with Jennie Wilklow who experienced a normal pregnancy till after her water broke and her beloved daughter Anna entered this world.
The mother who expected cheered faces congratulating her on the baby were all gloomy when she recovered from the labor.
She couldn’t help but as her husband if everything is fin who told her that “it’s bad.” These words too her aback and made her feel as if her dream of having a little bundle of joy who would complete her family has come to an end.
Jennie later discovered that as her daughter was born, her skin started to harden and crack. She was diagnosed with a rarest of the rare conditions called Harlequin Ichthyosis.
Our heart goes out for the mother who had to see her only child suffer so much of misery which she could do nothing about.
There was a point of time when Jennie was tired of asking the daughter if everything is alright because all she would get to know was that the doctors were taking their time to figure things out.
She gave up on hopes of having Anna back in her life.
Jennie’s husband who had seen Anna always told her that the child has the most beautiful soul which her eyes reflect adorably.
She was afraid that her daughter will have zero quality of life and was considering if death would be a better destiny for this little girl, though she knew that she would never be able to recover if she loses Anna. Something a mom wouldn’t even dare to imagine.
What came as a relief to the family was that Anna did very well in the NICU and it was days later that Jennie saw into her daughter’s eyes for the first time and witnessed the soul in them as her husband has described. She is indeed beautiful!
Due to this rare condition Anna was suffering from, everyone thought that the little girl will have to spend her life within a bubble of humidity level that suited her.
But the mother took up her role bravely and she used to coat Anna’s skin with Vaseline petroleum jelly and line her clothing with a layer of sanitary clothing topped with plastic.
With time she started to improve and finally is able to live a life like that of other children her age.
When Jennie shared the story of her child with the world, the internet got flooded with the best of wishes for Anna.
