A 22-month-old boy Kenneth Howard disappeared on May 12 as he was playing outside his home.
When he didn’t return, his family started searching for him. But, they couldn’t find him.
The family called the police and they started searching for him. Even after searching for 23 hours, they couldn’t find him.
His neighbor Tip Conley told WKYT-TV: “I knew this was very serious. He was a very loving little boy, but he was really active.”
When police couldn’t find him, Kenneth’s father, Elden Howard, offered to pay $5,000 to anyone who could bring back his son.
After three days, rescuers heard someone crying near the Howard home. It was the little boy at the bottom of an old mine.
Miraculously, he was alive and well.
His father Elden Howard said that he didn’t believe it was him “till they told me they were sure it was him and stuff, and I’d seen a picture.”
“I said, ‘That’s my boy.’ Tickled me to death. The best thing that ever happened to me in my life.”
Magoffin County Sheriff’s Office wrote on its Facebook page: “The Magoffin County Sheriff’s Office is happy to confirm the reports that Kenneth Howard has been FOUND!!!”
“According to Captain Carter Conley of the Magoffin County Rescue Squad, he is alive, he is being attended by medics for dehydration, but is in remarkably good condition.”
“Thanks to all who prayed, searched and helped in any way!! This is the best news ever!!!”
One official said after finding the little boy: “Over terrain, I would not, in fact, I can’t, even as a young man, I don’t think I’d even attempt it. That child is a true Kentucky mountain boy.”
