A multi-millionaire from Thailand has become a little too serious about his daughter’s future – and the farm owner is now offering a whopping sum of $316,000 (£240,000) along with his entire estate to the one who marries his daughter.
58-year-old Arnon Rodthong owns a huge durian fruit farm in Chumphon province located in the southern part of Thailand.
The man is so worried about his 26-year-old daughter, Karnsita, that he made an extraordinarily bizarre offer about her marriage.
In his offer, Rodthong highlighted the qualities of his daughter, explaining how she speaks fluent English and Chinese, helps him run his farm business, and is a virgin.
In some Thai areas, men should pay for the dowry of their brides according to the custom. Rodthong, however, insists that he’d waive this ‘fee’ for his future son-in-law.
As if it’s not enough, he will also give the lucky man 10 million Thai baht (equivalent to $316,000 or £240,000) in addition to his durian farm worth several million pounds.
The worried father says there are no restrictions on the nationality of his daughter’s future ‘husband’ as long as he ‘works hard and makes Karnsita happy’.
‘I want someone to take care of my business and make it last. I don’t want a person with a bachelor’s, or master’s or philosopher’s degree,’ he said.
‘I want a diligent man. I just want someone with a hard-working attitude. That’s all.’
Though he also has several other children including sons who should inherit his fortune as per traditions, the man says: ‘As soon as I have an in-law, I will give up all my assets to him.’
Rodthong’s durian farm is the biggest farm in the region, processing around 50-ton fruits every day.
As soon as the wealthy Buddhist’s controversial ‘offer’ surfaced online, both he and his daughter started receiving plenty of responses on social media.
Karnsita said she couldn’t believe the attention that her father’s post got and confirmed that she’s ‘still single’.
However, the 26-year-old quipped that the fortunate guy might have a little trouble in pocketing the money from Rodthong as she’d ‘like to use it herself for plastic surgery in Korea’.
‘I first found out about my father’s post when my friend’s showed me,’ she added. ‘I was surprised but I can see the funny side to it, too.
‘It is true that I am still single. If I have to get married with someone, I only want him to be a diligent and good person who loves his family.’
