The Armed Forces of India have paid a touching aerial tribute to COVID-19 frontliners by dropping thousands of rose petals on them as they flew by.
As seen in several photos from Sunday’s tribute, healthcare workers have gathered outside their respective hospitals to look to the skies and get showered in rose petals dropped from military helicopters.
As the people below were being honored with the aerial display, a military band had been playing patriotic songs including the popular ‘Jai Ho’ that appeared in the movie Slumdog Millionaire.
In response to the tribute, many healthcare workers were seen raising their hands and gesturing a peace symbol while maintaining social distancing outside their workplaces.
Besides dropping the petals, the Armed Forces also deployed fighter jets and other aircraft to honor the “corona warriors” with a series of aerial formations that took place in multiple states around the nation.
According to the reports, this was the third time in India for COVID-19 frontliners to receive a mass tribute for their selfless acts.
Previously, Indians have united to participate in countrywide clapping and lights lamping, two tributes organized to pay respects to key workers in the country.
As of this writing, Indian authorities have recorded over 42,500 COVID-19 cases and around 1,400 deaths.
While lockdown restrictions have been eased in some parts of the country, it was, on Friday, announced that the nationwide lockdown has been extended for an additional two weeks.
