According to a new lawsuit, migrant girls being held at detention centers are forced to wear their soiled clothes and were ‘visibly’ bleeding through their pants.

19 states filed a lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security’s standards and the Trump administration for detaining migrant children.

The investigation outlined what Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson called ‘appalling conditions.’

A number of detained migrant children were interviewed by the lawsuit. They described their time in detention centers as filled with uncertainty as most of them were not informed how long they would be kept in the facility or what exactly would happen to them.

One girl revealed that she went as long as ten days without being offered a shower even when she was menstruating. She also said that she was only given one sanitary pad per day.

Another young girl bled through her pants but was forced to wear her soiled garments and wasn’t given clean clothes.

“Although the guards knew they had their periods, they were not offered showers or a change of clothes, even when the other girl visibly bled through her pants. This girl had no choice but to continue to wear her soiled underwear and pants.”

The children also said the facilities were ‘freezing’ and they only received ‘aluminum blankets.’

But children who came in with clothes had their things confiscated by immigration officers.

Detention centers are so crowded kids couldn’t get enough sleep as “there was not enough room for everyone to lie down at the same time.”

It was also revealed that children in the facilities don’t have consistent access to toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, private bathrooms, toilet paper, and other basic sanitary needs.

In his press release, Bob Ferguson said that the “prison-like conditions will have profound, long-term impacts on their mental and physical health.”
