In a rare move, Prince William and Kate Middleton have decided to take legal actions against Tatler Magazine.
The piece at the center of this controversy is one titled “Catherine the Great” which was the cover issue for the magazine’s last edition.
The royal couple said that the piece was a vicious attack on them and their family as well as being sexist and against women in how it was written. It is reported that they have sent a legal letter to the magazine that asked them to remove the article. As of this writing, the article is still uploaded on Tatler’s website.
Although the article starts by concurring that the Duchess is one of the most influential woman right now, it quickly delves into rumors and depictions that the royal family has found to be erroneous and even offensive.
Daily Mail, citing insiders with information on the royal family, said that the royalties were most furious about how Tatler said Kate was feeling tired and overworked from the extra duty that befell on her after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the royal family.
Another part that infuriated the palace was the depiction of Kate’s weight and body figure. After characterizing her as dangerously thin, Tatler’s piece went onto compare Kate with Princess Diana who famously suffered from eating disorders. Prince William is Princess Diana’s son.
This source told the Mail that the situation is somewhat ironic because the royal family usually enjoys reading Tatler Magazine. Tatler’s chief editor defended his magazine’s position, arguing that he believes and endorses the contents that was included in the piece.
Meanwhile, a separate Mail article released Tuesday argued that Meghan complained to her acquaintances about the double standards of Buckingham, saying that she did not receive the treatment that Kate is receiving.
According to this source, Meghan said that the royal family – including the Duke and Duchess – never interfered or stood up for her when she and her marriage was plagued by scandalous rumors on these magazines.
This source indicated that Meghan feels betrayed as everyone who did not listen to her when she made the complaints now suddenly began supporting Kate for the same problems that she went through.
