Men Mistakenly Switched At Birth Finally Reunite With Their Biological Parents After 28 Years


Two men who were mistakenly switched almost three decades ago have finally met their biological parents for the first time.

The mishap went unnoticed until Yao Ce, 28, was diagnosed with late-stage liver cancer and he was given the heartbreaking news that he only has months left to live.

His mother had tried to donate a part of her liver to save his life but she was told by doctors that she was not a match.

Yao from eastern China’s Jiangxi province then underwent a paternity test with his father and that’s when the mistake was discovered.

After learning about the mix-up, the families have since met up and Yao and Guo celebrated their birthdays together with their biological parents.

Yao’s mother said as per the Global Times: “We have devoted a lot into Yao’s education, and he has become a successful young man.”

His biological mother also said: “We only hope that he can get better.”

“When I think about my parents’ attitude to me throughout the last month, I can’t think of one thing that has changed,” Yao expressed.

After the mixed up was finally discovered, Yao and his parents filed a case against the Huaihe Hospital of Henan University for emotional distress and were awarded 1,000,000 yuan ($155,320).

The compensation also included $93,192 (600,000 yuan) to cover medical expenses and $32,128 (400,000 yuan) for causing psychological damage to Yao and his biological expenses.

The court said as per China Daily: “The work error brought decades-long separation to Yao and his biological parents, so the hospital should pay them mental compensation.”

The 28-year-old is currently receiving radiation therapy at Shanghai Oriental Hepatobiliary Surgery Hospital.
