Strangers Invited A Widow Woman Who Was Dining Alone To Celebrate An Upcoming Anniversary To Eat With Them


Three men in Alabama have gone viral for their heartwarming random act of kindness.

People on social media praised a man and his three friends for sharing a meal with a widowed elderly woman.

Jamario Howard and his friends, Jamychol Baker, and Tae Knight had been eating at a restaurant in Oxford when they spotted an older woman who was eating alone on Thursday evening.

“My exact thought was, ‘Dang I’d hate to have to eat alone,’” Howard wrote on Facebook Thursday. “So after thinking about it a minute, I walked over to her and asked if I could sit with her.”

Howard’s friendly gesture made the woman smile, and she told the group that she was a widow who was eating out to celebrate her upcoming wedding anniversary.

“She said yes and we talked for a minute and after a while of talking she told me she lost her husband and that tomorrow would have been their 60th anniversary,” Howard wrote. “I instantly gave my condolences and asked her to come to eat with us, which she was excited to do.”

Howard, 23, said spending time with that woman and eating with her changed his outlook towards strangers. He shared this post to encourage other people and to embrace kindness but to spend more time with family.

“The point in this is always kind and be nice to people. You never know what they are going through,” he wrote. “Everyone has a story so do not judge! And people I can’t stress this enough. GO SEE YOUR MOM AND YOUR GRANDPARENTS. They miss you!!”

Howard told NBC News the woman’s name was Eleanor, and while eating she shared her life with him, she told him about her grandchildren and the volunteer work she does at a local hospital.

The post went viral and has been shared more than 58,000 times and has more than 20,000 comments, many people praise these men.

“We really need more people like you in this world,” one user wrote. “Be proud of yourself.”

One user, Connie McBride-Thibodeaux, wrote: ‘That was awesome, love one another, life is too short.’
