A Utah couple who once attempted to pray their gayness away has now welcomed triplets into their family.

27-year-old Sean Taylor-Baumann and 30-year-old Jake Taylor-Baumann from Salt Lake City decided to expand their family via a surrogate years after falling for each other while trying to find themselves “understanding wives.”

Sean and Jake, who were raised in Mormon households, initially met in 2012 when they forged a friendship in an attempt to help each other get through their ‘gay phase’ and look for wives who would understand them.

Soon after embarking on their mission to “work through the gay thing,” however, the pair found themselves in a tricky situation as they realized they were definitely more than just friends.

Years after professing their love for each other and leaving their church, the couple is stronger than ever and are now parents to young triplets.

“When Sean and I met on Grindr, we had never come out to anyone in real life. We were on the app with secret aliases and met up with the intention to help each other through the gay thing,” Jake recalled.

“We thought if we found understanding wives, we would be able to make life within the church work. Quickly, we realized that our friendship was more than that and we fell in love pretty fast becoming each other’s very first boyfriends.”

While telling their families and friends about their sexual orientation was no easy job, both Jake and Sean feel lucky to have been accepted for who they are by their loved ones.

“It didn’t take long for them to embrace what they didn’t understand and accept our authentic selves,” the 30-year-old added.

After tying the knot back in 2016, the couple was determined to start their own family and eventually agreed to do it through surrogacy. Following the loss of their first baby at just 12 weeks into the pregnancy, the pair met 32-year-old Heather who became their new surrogate.

Heather was eventually implanted with two embryos, whereas one went on to split, resulting in triplets whom the pair welcomed to their family earlier this year.

“It was such a high-risk pregnancy that we had so much anxiety and worry. When we saw their little faces we were overwhelmed with emotion and tears of joy,” Jake admitted.
