As the First Lady, who was clad in a green trench coat by Diane von Furstenberg, sat down to begin reading from the Christmas book, she decided to remove her face mask.

While the two children who listened to the First Lady were seated on the floor more than six feet away, some people suggested Melania was still breaking the hospital policy and putting the kids at risk by removing her mask during her reading session.

According to the children’s hospital policy, “everyone must wear a mask at all times while in any Children’s National facility to prevent the spread of COVID-19.”

Previously, in October, Melania battled and defeated Covid-19. Experts, however, are still not sure how long after beating the disease people still have antibodies that offer protection from the virus.

For the occasion, the First Lady reportedly read Oliver the Ornament Meets Marley & Joan and Abbey, the third of seven books belonging to Todd Zimmermann’s Oliver the Ornament Christmas series.
