Megyn Kelly has lashed out at major networks as she blamed the media for the Capitol riot by claiming they didn’t cover Trump fairly.
As the attorney, who worked as a Fox News talk show host for more than a decade until 2017, claimed, biased reporting on Trump led to the public’s lack of trust in the media.
The 50-year-old, who is currently working on her podcast The Megyn Kelly Show, also went on to blast the major networks for failing to cover Trump fairly and checking their objectivity in the process.
“They hated him so much, they checked their objectivity, and it wasn’t just CNN, all of them did. They just couldn’t check their own personal feelings about him,” Kelly expressed as she appeared on BBC’s Newsnight.
“Part of the reason we saw what happened at the Capitol, here, two weeks ago, was because there’s been a complete lack of trust – a destruction of trust – in the media and people don’t know where to turn for true information.”
The former Fox News host went on to blast CNN over their coverage of Trump as she admitted she initially believed that they were fair and factual.
“I remember listening to all of [Trump’s] disparaging comments about CNN when he first became a national figure as a presidential candidate, and I watched a lot of CNN even though I was on Fox,” she explained.
“And I was like this is unfair. CNN may be a little boring, but it’s fair and it’s factual. It’s not biased against Trump. Then they spent the next four years proving him right – proving me wrong.”
After her accusations went viral, Kelly was quick to face a backlash on social media where plenty of users suggested the insurrection was entirely Trump’s fault.
“No @megynkelly actually, he sucked so bad and veered so far from the norms of legal, democratic governance that it was difficult for media to report on him even halfway honestly without sounding like they had a vendetta against the guy,” one person wrote.
“Trump led to the storming of the Capitol. Period. This is dangerous and false from Kelly, and I can’t believe the BBC is reporting it as if there’s a germ of truth to it,” another one added.
Despite the backlash, Kelly appeared to double down on her allegations on Sunday as she blamed the MSM for the public’s lack of trust in the media.
“Only 18% of Republicans trust the media. The refusal of the msm to consider their role in causing this is inexcusable, but predictable. If they want to kill their own medium, that’s their choice, but GOP voters (75m of them) will find other options,” she tweeted.
