The Duchess of Sussex has hired Oprah Winfrey’s party planner for her 40th birthday party, a source has revealed.
Meghan Markle has enlisted Colin Cowie, a top celebrity wedding and event planner, to organize her low-key celebration at the $14.7 million California mansion she shares with her husband Prince Harry.
Cowie was recommended to the Duchess by Oprah after the TV host became friends with the couple after their March interview.
Speaking to The Mirror, a source said: “Meghan wants a small gathering. About 65 people are invited, her closest friends and family.
“Colin was recommended to her by Oprah who always puts on fabulous parties.”
The Duke of Sussex has reportedly ordered a cake for Meghan from Posies & Sugar, a local bakery that creates cakes in a simple-naked icing appearance.
According to reports, guests will be treated to ‘grazing tables’ at the event, completed with locally sourced wines and foods, to celebrate Meghan’s 40th birthday.
The mother-of-two’s birthday bash, which will be held in line with Covid rules, is expected to be a more low-key event than her $500,000 baby shower in New York before her son Archie was born.
She reportedly flew out to New York and celebrated with friends at lavish hotel The Mark in Manhattan.
Cowie has organized parties for stars such as Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Aniston, Tom Cruise, and Jennifer Lopez.
His mantra is: “The equation for the gold standard of service isn’t 1+1=2. It’s 1+1=3. What can you do to stay ahead of the curve?”
In 2018, Cowie was voted Vogue’s No1 wedding caterer and planner in the northeast United States.
Despite stepping down from their royal duties to have a ‘more peaceful life’ in the US, the Sussexes have kept a public profile, including the explosive Oprah interview in March.
