They also say the motive to keep homeless people away is also keeping residents away.

The McDonald’s sits at Broadway and 24th and is open 24 hours. People living in neighbors have complained that the sound of bagpipes has been running the whole day.

Arnold Phillips, who lives across the street said the sound is making him crazy.

“The first couple of days they had it on 24/7,” Phillips said. “If we wouldn’t have said anything or reported it to the police they would have had that thing going on still. It penetrates through the walls. We can hear it. I’m trying to watch TV or whatever and it’s going through that.”

The bagpipe music is meant to drive the homeless away, but some say it doesn’t seem to be working.

“I think it’s an absurd action to take instead of dealing with the issue,” Kiera Reeds said.

Phillips said sometimes he wishes he could pull the plug. He’s even talked to restaurant management.

“They said they’d talk to corporate, people up to higher,” Phillips said. “That’s all they said they could do really.”

Requests from CBS13 fell on deaf ears, but the Phillips downstairs neighbor Nate Dewitt had his ears covered.

“You know I turn off the leaf blower and I could still hear the bagpipes coming and it’s just constant,” Dewitt said.

If you’re eating with earbuds, then you are lucky. And if you’re not, it’s no happy meal here.

“I think it’s horrible because it doesn’t just deter the homeless,” said Susan Smart. “I think it would deter a lot of people.”

“But it’s annoying us instead,” Phillips said.

The neighbors are still waiting on the McDonald’s Corporation to give them clarification to their concerns.
