The former host broke his long silence last month by attacking Ronan Farrow. After a New York Times piece that doubted the authenticity of part’s of the Pulitzer-winning journalist, Lauer jumped into the fray.

In fact, the allegation that Lauer sexually assaulted a NBC staffer was revealed to the world by Farrow in the journalist’s 2019 book “Catch and Kill”. The title of the book refers to how rich, powerful individuals will use their connections and wealth to puppeteer journalists to get a hold of a story, only to not publish it – thus the name.

Back in May, Lauer argued that even before he had a chance to defend himself and deny the allegations, his accuser was already being hailed as a brave survivor of assault. He continued by saying he was not surprised to learn that Farrow’s way of journalism is erroneous and unethical.

Ever since the allegations first became public, Lauer has argued that the extramarital relationship that he had was a consensual one, not a case of rape as the accuser characterized. Regardless, NBC pulled the host out of the waves and Lauer has not returned since.

Us Weekly reported that Lauer’s friends are urging him to stage a big interview, preferably self-recorded, to find a larger audience who may agree with him. The magazine also noted that because of Covid-19, Lauer will not have to face crowd members, which makes it easier for him to speak out.

Brooke Nevils, the alleged survivor of Lauer’s assault, has stood by her accusations. After Lauer’s criticism of Farrow was published, she said it was typical behavior from the assailants of sexual abuse.

Both Farrow and The New Yorker, which published Farrow’s article on Harvey Weinstein, defended the work of the journalist. Recently, Woody Allen also agreed with the NYT article and said he knew his son was always loyal to his mother and thus was not surprised that his work included falsehoods.
