A simple and yet confusing math problem has gone viral after the majority of adults failed to answer it correctly.
If you still remember anything you’ve learned in your math class, we’ve got some good news for you. Today, you can put your math skills to the test and prove to your teacher that they were right for letting you pass!
As seen in the picture above, your job is pretty simple. You have to solve the math problem by finding out what number should replace the question mark at the end of the equation!
If you need some time, worry not. There’s no pressure! Get a piece of paper and a pen and write it all down if you have to.
Once you’re done, make sure to leave a comment and verify your answer below.
The correct answer is 102, and here’s how you solve this problem:
Since multiplication and division have the same priority, you simply start solving the equation from left to right, whereas 1 x 1 = 1 and 1111 : 11 = 101.
Therefore, 1 + 101 = 102.
If your answer is different, make sure that you were paying attention to the order of operations while solving the problem. Since multiplication and division have a higher priority than subtraction and addition you should address them before proceeding by performing addition.
Here’s another similar problem if you need some more practice.
(11 x 11) : 1 + 111 = ?
If you paid attention to the explanation above, solving this problem should be a piece of cake!
This time, the correct answer is 232, and here’s how we got to that number:
(11 x 11) : 1 + 111 =
(121) : 1 + 111 =
121 + 111 =
