14 People Injured After Mass Shooting At A Funeral Home


More than a dozen people have been left injured following a mass shooting that took place at a funeral home Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred at Rhodes Funeral Home in Chicago where people attending a service had just been leaving the premises when they were ambushed and shot at.

As of this writing, it is not yet clear how many shooters participated in the attack at the funeral home. The authorities, however, confirmed that one person of interest is in their custody for questioning.

According to initial reports, at least 14 people have been injured during the shooting, whereas First Deputy Eric Carter confirmed that 14 victims were transported to several hospitals in the city.

At least 11 victims of the shooting are believed to have suffered serious injuries. The victims’ current condition is unknown.

The shooting took place outside the Rhodes Funeral Home where a black vehicle approached the mass of people via West 79th Street at around 6:30 in the evening.

After the shooters opened fire on the crowd of people leaving service, the funeral attendees allegedly returned fire.

Further down the road, the vehicle reportedly crashed, prompting shooters to exit the vehicle and flee the scene.

Following the mass shooting, the police managed to recover 60 shell casings from the crime scene. They also confirmed they “have a person of interest being interviewed by detectives of the area.”

Speaking of the incident to NBC Chicago was witness Arnita Gerder who said she saw “bodies laying everywhere.”

“Shot up everywhere, all over. Legs, stomach, back, all over the place. We thought it was a war out here,” Gerder recalled.

Another witness, Kenneth Hughes, added:

“We saw a car with about six bullet holes in it and it was turned facing the grass like he lost control. We saw a hat down on the ground and evidently it was his.”
