Hundreds of revelers ignored social distancing guidelines as they attended a mass pool party in Missouri shortly after the partial lift of coronavirus lockdown.
In photos and videos shared on social media, masses of partygoers are seen enjoying the warm weather and water at Lake of the Ozarks in Osage Beach, Missouri.
The Zero Ducks Given event, organized by the likes of Backwater Jack and Shady Gators, attracted hordes of visitors who had a hard time following the calls for maintaining social distance.
The party, which was one of many that have taken place across the state following the decision to partially lift the lockdown, took place after the government decided to allow restaurants, gyms, hotels, and swimming pool to reopen.
However, these institutions should still “adhere to strict social distancing and sanitation protocols” according to guidelines.
While Backwater Jack’s organizers assured people that the event would operate under reduced capacity in their Facebook post, they failed to state what the limit was.
Meanwhile, Shady Gators displayed a large sign urging people to social distance by keeping at least 6 feet apart, something that was clearly ignored by the majority of revelers.
While some people condemned the event organizers and accused them of failing to take sufficient security measures during the pool party, the attendees appear to be satisfied with the outcome.
“When we walked up my first words were ‘oh my gosh’ it was intense for sure! Social distancing was nonexistent. However, everyone was enjoying themselves,” event attendee Jodi Akins said in an interview with CNN.
“It was a very carefree environment but security was heavy! They checked all of our temps and had thousands of little bottles of hand sanitizer!! They did a good job with what they had to work with!”
