A market in Guadalajara, Mexico, is using ozone-based sanitation tunnels to decrease the spread of COVID-19.
The tunnel system is produced and supplied by a chemical company in the city and is now working throughout the outdoor shopping center, considered one of the largest food markets in the country.
The system has been commissioned by the Grocery Merchant’s Union and is the first of its type in the country.
The union decided to deploy the system due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases being reported in the country.
Salvador Hernández Navarro, the president of the Grocery Merchant’s Union, said they decided to install the sanitation system after it was successfully used in Italy and Spain.
Both these countries are among the ones most seriously hit by the novel coronavirus.
Speaking to local newspaper El Occidental, Salvador said: “We took this initiative to launch this new technology by placing this ozone tunnel before the large number of visitors that are welcomed daily because we are the second-largest supply center in the country and we want people to have the peace of mind that we care for your health and the food that is consumed.point 496 |

The machine works by converting atmospheric oxygen into ozone.
It takes in air from outside of the tent, creates ozone and then sprays a mist of ozone and water on the shoppers which helps keep microorganisms away for at least an hour.
Healthy Ministry of Mexico has also been playing its role in stopping the spread of COVID-19 by providing hand sanitizer dispensers and masks for the customers.
Mexican government’s approach towards coronavirus has just taken a U-turn.
The government previously decided not to do anything but the number of cases in the country has recently spiked, forcing the government to enforce a partial lockdown.
President López Obrador addressed the Mexican public in a YouTube video, saying: “Don’t go out into the street unless it is for something absolutely necessary.
“We have to be in our homes. We have to maintain a safe distance.”
The president made the point that corona had the potential of causing irreparable damage if not taken care of the right way.
He added: “The number of infection cases will spike upwards and will overwhelm our hospitals. We won’t have enough hospitals, beds, even if we are prepared to receive thousands.”
There are currently 1,688 cases of the disease in the country so far.
However, according to some sources, the diagnostic system is not reliable in Mexico and the actual patient count can be much higher.
